BP oil spill

According to a Gallup Poll http://www.gallup.com/poll/137882/Oil-Spill-Alters-Views-Environmental-Protection.aspx, the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has altered the view of the environment protection. The majority of Americas now favor protecting the environment by 55% to 39% which is the second largest percentage in history in the ten year poll of the environment according to the Gallup Poll.

This doesn't come as a surprise to me that now many more Americans favor environmental protection, but the better question I believe is whether this increase is due to the greatest environmental disaster in history happening as this poll was taken or rather if Americans really do want to protect the environment?

  1. I've had the same questions that you have in regards to the public's attitude towards the environment. It is a pattern in American history that people don't usually care about an issue until it directly affects them in a tragic way.
