World's largest offshore wind power field
The associated press just released an article http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5gKKMToZH4Copi6tl92_gy2rF4XewD9IDO6V80 about how England just finished the World's largest turbine wind farm offshore. The farm could produce enough power to provide power to around 200,000. This could be the testing ground to the future of power and potentially an idea to look for in the future

According to http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/09/60-mpg-fuel-economy-standard-2025.php environmental groups across the country are pushing the Obama Administration to up the economy standard on cars up to 60 MPG over the next fifteen years. By researching and developing new technologies that will enable our cars to be more efficient would be a great leap towards solving our dependance on foreign oil.

BP oil spill
According to a Gallup Poll http://www.gallup.com/poll/137882/Oil-Spill-Alters-Views-Environmental-Protection.aspx, the recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has altered the view of the environment protection. The majority of Americas now favor protecting the environment by 55% to 39% which is the second largest percentage in history in the ten year poll of the environment according to the Gallup Poll.
This doesn't come as a surprise to me that now many more Americans favor environmental protection, but the better question I believe is whether this increase is due to the greatest environmental disaster in history happening as this poll was taken or rather if Americans really do want to protect the environment?

Intro
Hi, my name is Ty Bailey and I am a Senior at Illinois State University. I am majoring in Political Science and minoring in Legal Studies. I have decided for the semester to research and blog on topics pertaining to the environment. I am interested in the ongoing struggle between man and the environment and how we as a species are contributing to the destruction of our environment.
This is a topic that affects all of us no matter race, religion, gender, geography etc...If our species doesn't change our ways now we might destroy our only home not only for our species, but for all of the animal kingdom. I'll leave you with a quote from President Teddy Roosevelt
"To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining in the days of our children the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed."
